The poster used ChatGPT to draft an appeal of a street-sweeping parking ticket, and the ticket was dismissed.
The poster used ChatGPT to draft an appeal of a street-sweeping parking ticket, and the ticket was dismissed.
The poster fed ChatGPT-4 the specifics of a $75 street-sweeping ticket, the city sewage project that had pushed parking more than a mile away, and the fact they were sick and forgot to move the car. ChatGPT drafted a polite but firm email to the city council; the poster edited hallucinated details, sent it themself, and then heard back from the city manager and maintenance head.
The city manager replied the next day, and the head of maintenance said the ticket was dismissed with no further action required. In comments, the poster and others said ChatGPT mainly improved the writing rather than creating the underlying argument.
The main catch was manual editing: the poster says ChatGPT hallucinated some details, so they tweaked the draft before sending it.
Help me appeal a parking ticket. Details: [ticket number, date, location, violation, city]. My situation: [why it was unfair, such as unclear signs, wrong time, or an emergency]. Look up the city's appeal rules and deadline, then draft a short, polite appeal letter with a list of evidence I should attach. Show me the draft before I submit anything.
